Kirkland Pump Station and Sewer Upgrade Project
As part of its mission to protect public health and the environment, King County is responsible for conveying and treating wastewater collected by 34 cities and local sewer agencies, including the City of Kirkland. The King County Wastewater Treatment Division proposes to upgrade the Kirkland Pump Station at the corner of Third Street and Park Lane in downtown Kirkland, to increase capacity and insure safe and reliable operations. The county also needs to increase capacity of the sewers that lead in and out of the pump station. Need for ProjectKing County has operated the Kirkland Pump Station for more than 40 years. Proposed WorkThe Kirkland Pump Station is across the street from the King County Library (external link) and next to the Kirkland Transit Center (external link), which will all be constructed within the next five years. The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is working with Sound Transit and the City of Kirkland to coordinate efforts and minimize impacts on the community and downtown businesses. The pump station and sewer improvements will be constructed in phases, in coordination with these other agencies:
Modifications to the county’s Kirkland Pump Station will include: replacing pumps, odor control equipment, and emercency generator; electrical system upgrades; modernization of control instrumentation; and improvements to the building’s exterior. BackgroundThe existing pump station was built in the late 1960s. The pump station receives flows from downtown Kirkland and pumps it east to the main conveyance pipe which takes the wastewater to King County's South Treatment Plant in Renton. Schedule
